In the early hours of April 28, 2025, tragedy struck the Port Arthur LNG construction site. According to reports from KFDM 6 News, a scaffold collapse at the facility led to the deaths of three workers and left two others injured. The incident occurred just past the Intracoastal Canal Bridge on South Gulfway Drive within Port Arthur’s city limits.
The workers were performing duties at elevation when the scaffolding gave way. Two workers fell to their deaths, while a third initially survived but later passed away at a local hospital. Two additional workers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released from medical care. Authorities, including the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and OSHA, are actively investigating the cause of this catastrophic failure.
Port Arthur LNG, a $13 billion liquefied natural gas export terminal currently under construction, is a joint venture between Sempra Infrastructure and ConocoPhillips. Bechtel Energy, the engineering and construction contractor on the project, has temporarily suspended all work at the site while investigations continue.
